On a crisp fall day in November 2006, a real bride, a borrowed wedding dress, a shotgun, and a group of New England wedding photographers wanting to push the envelope, planted the seeds of what would become the ShootStyle movement.
ShootStyle is a labor of love for a group of independent wedding photographers from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire who are determined to break the mold of what wedding photography is "supposed" to be. We share a desire to create unique and visually stimulating images - or more bluntly, photos that kick ass!
ShootStyle's not just about sweet pictures. The wedding photography industry is traditionally a cutthroat business, with each studio closely guarding it's secret techniques for lighting, posing, processing, etc. Screw that! ShootStyle embraces open sharing of techniques between members. We believe that when we openly share our knowledge and experience, we improve each of our individual businesses. Every member of ShootStyle has assisted another member of ShootStyle at real weddings.
A dramatic example of the ShootStyle spirit occurred when one of the members broke her ankle 2 hours before a wedding. Not only were other ShootStyle members on hand to assist her on that day, but we had her back the whole month as her ankle healed.
We decided to make our efforts more public through the use of this website for two reasons:
1: To promote artistic wedding photography to couples looking for a wedding photographer who's not afraid to think outside the box, to set the bar for artistic, creative, fun wedding photography in New England, and to back it up with photos that show our style
2: To dispense our kool-aid to other wedding photographers in the New England area. All ShootStyle get togethers are open to any professional wedding photographer that is willing to participate in the atmosphere of sharing. With all that we've gained from each other, we are excited to grow the community and our own knowledge and artistry.
